Fotopeeps 2012 :: All Are Welcome

Fotopeeps is….Fabulous! Fantastic! Fotography fun for all!

Photopeeps is our weekly gathering of folks that want to share & learn more about the Joy of Photography.

We meet every Wednesday at the Rock Church in Rm 353, 7pm till they kick us out…usually 9pm.

We are gearing up for 2012 and are excited for another year of fun and fellowship as we explore the world of photography together.

All are welcome to join in on the fun.  We have folks from all walks of life and photography skill levels who come and have fun with us.  You don’t even have to have a camera to join us, but it does help!

In the next few weeks we will be getting to know each other, sharing photos, answering questions that you may have and preparing for our Intro to Photography Phun classes that will be starting in February.  If you have been wanting to learn more about photography but don’t have time or money to go to your local community college, come join us.

Our Intro classes are free!  We only charge a small fee of Nothing! to join us.  All we ask is you come and be ready to have fun and share with the class.

WARNING!!  Our classes are not meant to be an exhaustive, learn everything about photography class.

We believe that the best way to learn is by taking photos as you learn new things about your camera.  Our goal is to teach you how to use the camera you have, not the camera you want.

Therefore, the best camera is the camera you have.

We also believe that you can learn everything there is to learn about photography but if your not actively taking photos and sharing  your photos, all that knowledge is for not.

In the same way we believe that Christ came that we all might have life to the fullest (John 10:10) and as  followers of Christ it’s not enough to memorize Scripture and read God’s Word from cover to cover…you need to use it and share the Hope and Joy of Christ with those around us, especially with those who don’t know Christ yet.

We invite you to come and learn with us.

If your reading this and want to join the fun, but are beyond the basic “Intro classes”, don’t fret!  There’s room for you too.  Come join us and we would be glad to share more with you.

We will be sharing soon some of our scheduled fun foto outings for the year in class and on this site soon…so stay tuned.  If you haven’t been to our facebook page and “Liked” us yet, please do so.  That way you will be kept up to date as to what we got cookin for yall.

Any questions leave a comment and we will get back to you.

Del Mar Fair Shenanigans

Yesterday, the team and I went to the Del Mar Fair to just relax, fellowship and do what we love to do, take pictures! I also brought along my friend, Danielle, to teach her a little bit about photography and she did a great job and learned really quickly! The day went so smoothly, starting with Mike’s awesome work benefits which included free parking right in front of the gate, free admission and great box seats at the Lonestar concert. It was such a blessing to have him there! Plus, he carried my bag around when my shoulders started to hurt! You should have seen his relief when he realized it was a masculine camera bag and not a frilly pink purse.

But the boys weren’t getting off THAT easily… as soon as we got into the fair, I dragged them to the Home and Garden building to take pictures of flowers. Brother Joe headed for the massage chairs, but I ended up getting some shots of award winning foliage!

After the concert, we headed out to take pictures of the lights in fun zone. As Danielle said, “it’s so fun because you never know what you’re going to get!” I definitely agree. I think it’s like Christmas morning and each click of the shutter is Santa Clause in my chimney. Full of surprises, some worked and some didn’t. Here are a few that did…

As we left the fair, exhausted but satisfied. I couldn’t help but thank God for the team and for these opportunities to spend time together. I missed the people that couldn’t make it but I know that we will shoot together in the future and I look forward to that day!!

Wednesday Photo Class: Fireworks

Tonight was the first night in a long time that I’ve been able to go to the Wednesday night photo class that the team puts on. A year ago, I was a student of this class with a newly purchased DSLR with no idea about how to attempt digital photography. Though I was trained in film and darkroom, I thought the digital realm was so intimidating and the cameras had too many menus and too many buttons. I still have yet to master the machine but I’m so blessed that there are classes like these that are not only FREE but very informative.

I remember being so frustrated last year on the fourth of July when I tried to photograph the fireworks display at Huntington Beach. The number of successful shots I got? Zero. So this time, as everyone was quietly and studiously adjusting their settings with each frame, I was shrieking in excitement because I actually got a shot that worked! I don’t think I would have ever accomplished this without the help of Brother Joe and Jim tonight. Thanks guys!

Sometimes I get so locked on one thing and forget to do something as simple as LOOK AROUND. Lisa was sharing her shots with me and I loved one of them because there were so many reflections on the water. When she told me it was the other side of the bay, I thought “duh…” but that is just a reminder that we’re always a step or a turn away from a better image. Don’t forget to look up, or down, or all around…

This was one of my favorite images of the night because I think the clouds form the shape of a bird. I would like to think it’s a dove… and my good friend The Holy Spirit. 🙂

“The Heaven was opened. And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove…” Luke 3:21-22

Carlsbad Flower Fields

so the photo peeps went to the carlsbad flower fields on sunday.  lots of color, lots of people, lots of people breaking the rules and wandering into the flowers beyond the barriers, and canon cameras.

flowers are pretty, and make for a nice backdrop…especially for canon cameras. there were lots of folks using canon cameras, and lots of other folks wishing they had canon cameras.  just look at some of the pics i took…its all i could find.

it was a fun beautiful day, made extra special by the sounds of titanic being played on the pan flute for those tired of walking around…near…far…wherever u are….made me want to say, canon is king of the camera world!

wild, wild, wild, wild flowers of the desert

the photo peeps ventured out to our local desert, lookin for aliens and lost bags of money, but we only found a bunch of flowers.  the anza-borrego desert was very un-desert like, with lots of pretty flowers, and all kinds of people oohinng and aaaaahhing as they stomped on the flowers looking for acreage that was unpopulated.  most settled on taking pics at the desert welcome center.  why not…theres shade, lots of flowers close by and bathrooms  just a few steps away!

seriously, it was lots of fun.  there were 6 of us that made the trek out, we had a few last minute cancellations and someone was gonna meet us out there, but we never saw them.  but it all worked out well.  5 out of the 6 of us had never been out to see the flowers, so we were all new to the desert flower scene.  im not a big flower person… so i didnt feel the need to venture to far away from the cars, so i found some flowers near the car and had fun seeing how close i could focus on the flowers.  the pics you see here were actually from coyote canyon, where we went to after henderson canyon rd.

it fun trying to get a close up pic of the flowers, especially with the flowers constantly moving in the breeze.  anyway, hope you like these…
