RESCUE AND PROTECT: Staff Sgt. Edward Rosa reads the Bible and extends a cigarette to Pfc. Jorge Rostra Obando, who was stunned by an explosion in Afghanistan’s Arghanab Valley. One comrade was killed and two injured in the blast. Pfc. Rostran asked the sergeant to read Psalm 91,a favorite from his childhood.
1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”
3 Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5 You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8 You will only observe with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.
9 If you make the Most High your dwelling—
even the LORD, who is my refuge-
10 then no harm will befall you,
no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread upon the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
14 “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call upon me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life will I satisfy him
and show him my salvation.”
Tuesday night – Men of the Rock. They are there every Tuesday night and if you are a man of the Rock and want to grow your faith, then you need to be there. Ronnie and Rick Holderby’s testimony regarding this ministry starts simply… The men’s ministry started only a few years ago with only a few men of the church. Through the beginning – they had wondered if this ministry is really what God had called them to do… Sometimes five, sometimes 12, sometimes just the two of them… In truth, to hear the challenges they had begun with encourage me… It only solidifies God’s power and work in this ministry. But, God moves in mighty ways… Moving from just a small room upstairs in the building, to the cafeteria – The Men of the Rock now face a problem – we have come to a point where they may fit nowhere else, but the main sanctuary – a “problem” we’d like to have…
I graduated from IRONMEN back in winter 2008 and – in a few words – it changed my life. A 12 month curriculum, 12 books, study, worship, fellowship, accountability, memory verses – it was real challenge. And honestly, through it all, I was so busy I didn’t even realize it – looking back, my life, my faith, and my love for God has grown like never before… I have been blessed…
Seeing men worship together – something is powerful about it…
This past Tuesday, MOTR had a special guest, Pastor Miles… and his message was on adversity… knowing who you are in God and understanding pain’s purpose in your growth – and it couldn’t be more appropriate… especially for me… praise God. At the end of the message he called the men forward to recommit to God…
Men, there are several ministries available – Again every Tuesday, Warriors meet… a new Ironmen session begins in March. And in addition, The Most Excellent Way, For Men Only, and Prayer Warriors are ministries for addiction, sexual integrity accountability, and prayer – respectively.
The sanctuary was packed with God-seeking men… praise God…Pastor Darren alluded to something past Sunday that was very telling. He said, he believed that the problems in our world do not have to do with TV shows, the media, or anything else – It is because the men are not being the men that God has made them to be… Men of the Rock, the momentum is building… The first lesson I learned in Ironmen – if you want to be blessed, if you want to know God more, if you want to grow – Go where God is working…
men of the rock at taking over the rock sanctuary this tuesday. check out the video from pastor miles and go here for more info. be there!

i started this blog sat nite at this years mens retreat…2 weeks ago now. ive looked at all the pics jim and i took at the retreat, a few pics. God continues to show me what a blessing it was to be there once again. i think ive been to every retreat the motr (men of the rock) has put on, and every year its different and it can be a challenge to not see it for what it is… that the retreat is an opportunity to get away and be with God. to worship and commune, to listen, and for me its a time to check for directions. to make sure im heading in the direction that God wants for me.
when tommy asked on friday nite of the retreat, how many men were at their first mens retreat, it looked like 75%-80% of the men raised their hands. that blew me away. and it got me pumped up. i had the privilege of being here to document what God was going to do in the lives of these men.
i tell the team often that id rather they be obedient to God, and not take pics, than they take pics and be disobedient to God. theres always time to take pics, if its time to worship and pray, thats by far the better choice. so as i was shooting, im always conscience of that, am i in Gods perfect will…am i shooting for him or for me, am i shooting what He wants me to show folks.
it was truly a blessing to be at this years mens retreat. as i was capturing what God was doing, i couldnt help but praise Him. strange in my mind, that i can praise Him with my camera, taking pics of these men, who were praising God. it was a thought id never really considered. im a firm believer in the fact that we can praise and worship God in everything we do, but id never really considered the fact that in documenting His work, i can worship Him.
after all, my desire and our desire as a team is to honor Him as we document His Work. a praise offering in the form of images taken with my camera. understanding that the gift of photography, the gear He provides, the ability to see…its ALL from Him! Praise God!
ive chosen a few more pics that have stood out to me, i hope it blesses yall as it has been a blessing to look at these pics again.
