Easter on the Ranch is a time for boys and girls who have incarcerated parents, along with their families, to enjoy a day away from their city life. The volunteers at the ranch provide for them a western experience that includes hayrides, horse rides and farm animals.
There are over 70,000 children ages 7-15 in the Southern California area that have incarcerated parents. The statistics show that these children are five times more likely to end up in prison themselves. They are seven times more likely to become involved in the juvenile justice system than their peers. And they are more likely to suffer from depression, substance abuse, disruptive behavior, eating and sleeping disorders, diminished academic performance, and feelings of abandonment, loneliness, shame, guilt, and resentment.
The kids get to color eggs and make Easter crafts. It is a time to have fun and hang out with their friends.
Calicinto Ranch does much more than just this once a year Easter celebration for these boys and girls, they also put on spring break and summer camps for them. Here the kids get to hear Bible stories and sing worship songs. They learn the six pillars of Character: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship. Calicinto Ranch gives children a life changing experience in order to break the cycles of at-risk youth of incarcerated parents.

For if, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.
Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men. For as by the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous. Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
(Romans 5:17-21 ESV)
Christ died (on Friday) and rose on the third day (Sunday) that we might have life! That’s the Good News!

Each year, the service is sponsored by a different congregation, making it truly a community event. This year, Calvary Chapel of La Mesa was the sponsor.
Even the dogs were enjoying the worship music.“I (Jesus) am in them and you (God) are in me. May they (Believers) experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me.” John 17:23
“The angel spoke to the women: “There is nothing to fear here. I know you’re looking for Jesus, the One they nailed to the cross. He is not here. He was raised, just as he said. Come and look at the place where he was placed.” Matt. 28;5,6
The sun never came out for the Sunrise Service but it was still beautiful atop Mt. Helix. Seeing all the families who had walked up the hill so early in the morning to celibrate our Lord’s resurrection was a blessing.
i am blessed to be part of a faithful team of talented photographers that give selflessly of their time and talents to help document what God is doing at the rock. the remarkable thing is that many of those i have the pleasure of serving with have been at the rock since the rock began in 2000.
here are just a few pics from Easter that the team took…more soon
the rock has a nice story on the website about Easter at the Rock, using the photo teams pics…you can read the story HERE
Well my third anniversary with the Rock Photographers has come and gone with our annual Silent Ride 4 Jesus. I was still new to the Rock and was going through XBI when I first rode with the Mountain Bike Ministry (MTB). At the time I was preparing for the Jamaica Mission trip and was working with Kevin Loomis on the Flankers School project. Kevin invited me along for the ride and I offered to shoot it for the Rock MTB website. After the ride I bumped into Brother Joe leader of our merry band of Rock Photogs and the rest is history. Finding God’s talent inside is something that I longed for and I am thankful that He has put me in such good company which I call family.
I can’t end this little blog entry though without a shout out to Zack Jones. Thanks for coming out and riding with us and a great devotional. If anyone is curious about the history of the Silent Ride 4 Jesus take a look at my past posts. May God bless you and I sincerely hope that you have found your God-given talent to make the short trip through this world closer to Him.
I guess those that can jump, can also ride, and preach!!! 🙂 Pastor Zack Jones is a man of many talents for Him!

The Katinas hold a special place in the heart of The Rock Church as well as mine. Their music really makes you want to get involved and it’s amazing how they affect people through their ministry. I may not have much of a singing voice but I can’t stop myself from worship when they are in town. Enjoy the pics and in case you have never heard them before check out their site where you can listen and worship with them. The Katinas
Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!
God gives us the incredible freewill in this beautiful life to make a choice. The choice is whether or not to have faith in our savior Jesus Christ. Some of us take longer to make the decision than others and some don’t make it at all. The only exceptions to this choice are the children because they are innocent. This post is for those kids who haven’t reached the age of making a decision in their life and for those just making it. I still find it amazing how the Holy Spirit works in these young people who make a decision early in life.
Some are just making their decision…
Some find their calling through ministry…
…and some are still in the age of God’s protection.
It is so wonderful to see the children in the sanctuary with their families on Easter. We are all God’s children but the young are extra special in His heart.
Silent Ride 4 Jesus was created by the Rock Mountain Bike Ministry (Rock MTB) to honor Jesus and what He did for us. The Silent Ride was originally created to honor a rider who was hit and killed by a motorist, so the leaders of the Rock Mountain Bike Ministry decided what better way to honor Jesus at this important time of the year by doing the same. By riding in silence on the Saturday before Easter we expose many people to the fun of riding as well as spreading the message of Christ. The ride was setup for everyone to participate not just MTBers.
It was a year ago today that I started with the Rock Photographers and of course my first event was the Silent Ride. I originally came out to hang out with Kevin and the rest of the MTB crew but told them I would bring my camera equipment and get some shots for them. That was when I met up with Brother Joe and the rest is history. My life has been changed ever since getting plugged in with the Photo Ministry. All I can say is that if you are not a part of a ministry yet you really need to find the time. You will be amazed at what God will show you and how much more your life will be blessed.
So back to the Silent Ride… The weather report had me a little concerned but it only sprinkled for a short time during the ride. Even with the finicky weather we still had over 70 riders out for the event. The ride was at Mission Bay and we rode a little over three miles to the picnic area where we had a devotional. Pastor Ricky was there as well as his son, Elisha. Elisha did the devotional and it is amazing how devoted this 9 year old is to lead others to Christ.
Another first was one of our new shooters, Malia. She did an awesome job on roller blades even through the rain. I can’t wait to see the results of her first official shoot with the team. Only time will tell but it sounds like this new shooter is a blogger also so hopefully you will hear from her soon.
This year the event was also held by the local churches of Jackson, MS and hopefully next year we will see this catch on in many other locations. If you would like to learn more about the ministry or just want to come out for a ride check out our site at Rock MTB. Also keep an eye out for the full collection of photos at the Rock Photo Gallery.
jim ochi, the lead photographer at horizon north county and part time rock photographer, has created another sweet audio photo gallery. go check it out.
good work jim. i love this pic of the baby w pink headphones!
of the 4 silent rides ive attended, i rode the first 2 and drove the last 2, having missed 1 in the middle. it has rained 4 out of 5 years, including the ride last saturday. despite this years weather, they had around 70 riders this year, including 1 riding and 1 roller-blading photographer, several children in tow, plus 1 dog named sherpa running alongside his master.
3 shooters: driveby jim rode, malia on blades, and me… in my dry, warm car, watching the rain hit my windshield as i waited for the faithful riders to approach. between the 3 of us, we shot over 1500 pics. this may seem like a lot of pics, but since this ride is in honor of what Christ has done for us, i think its fine. that averages out to 500 snaps per shooter (i did the math in my head).
pastor ricky and his son elisha shared the devotional this year. taking some of the time to allow elisha to share his heart for the lost all around him at school, and what he is doing to fulfill God’s Great Comission to go into all the world and share Christ.
as we all take time to reflect what this time of year is all about, and what Christ has to offer all of us, little 9 year old elisha page is an example of what God can do with someone with child-like faith and a genuine desire to share the love of Christ with those who dont know Him yet.
Christ offers real hope and peace for those earnestly seeking Him, and a chance to make a real impact on the world around us. Praise God for His gift of eternal life and His life transforming love.
im really tired. but its a good tired. this was a long weekend of shooting…starting with good friday, rock mtb silent ride sat morning, sat nite easter service, and all day easter sunday starting at 6 am till sometime around 1 am when i finished downloading pics and crashed out.
been lookin at pics this morning, and will probably be doing the same till late in the pm early am. i have no complaints. ive been blessed to be part of a great team of shooters that really stepped up this easter season to document what God is doing at the rock church. they all did a fantastic job, even the nikon shooters.
its a good thing i took a little nap between services or else im sure i really would have faded last nite. more pics to come.
i think ive seen the movie at least 4 times prior to the good friday showing at the rock. i have yet to shed any tears, but thats not to say i was not affected by the movie. its just that ive read the book!seriously, the images are undoubtedly powerful, along with the message of what Christ did for us that we all may have life abundently (jn 10:10). ‘the pics here are screen shots taken during the showing of the movie. i think the pics speak for themselves.
those present good friday were certainly moved, many in tears resulting in a large crowd coming forward for altar call and prayer. you can see more pics the team took on good friday by clicking here.
